Lithium manganese battery is a type of button cell battery that is rated at 3 volts and is also known as a 3V battery. Lithium manganese is the chemical name of the battery, named after its positive and negative electrode materials.

A lithium dioxide manganese battery is a type of battery with a lithium negative electrode and a manganese dioxide positive electrode. It has good low and medium rate discharge performance, low cost, and good safety performance, making it competitive with conventional batteries. So, does the lithium manganese battery belong to the lithium battery category? What is the difference between lithium manganese batteries and lithium-ion batteries? Let us take a closer look.

1. Lithium manganese battery

A lithium manganese battery is also known as a lithium-dioxide manganese battery. In the original battery, metallic lithium is used as the negative electrode and manganese dioxide is used as the positive electrode. In the battery, the anode is the negative electrode and electrons flow from the negative electrode to the positive electrode, while the current flows from the positive electrode to the negative electrode. In the electrolysis cell, the anode is connected to the positive electrode, and the anions in the solution undergo oxidation on the anode, corresponding to the cathode.

Small lithium batteries are commonly used in portable electronic devices such as palmtop computers, watches, cameras, thermometers, calculators, notebook computer BIOS, communication devices, and remote control car door locks. They come in many shapes, sizes, and varieties, with the 3V "coin-shaped" lithium manganese battery typically having a diameter of 20mm and a thickness of 1.6-4mm.

Lithium thionyl chloride batteries are disposable batteries that cannot be recharged, while lithium batteries include disposable lithium primary batteries, lithium-sulfur dioxide batteries, lithium manganese batteries, and lithium iron phosphate batteries, which are all primary batteries that cannot be recharged. There are rechargeable batteries known as lithium-ion batteries that have a rated voltage of 3.7V or 3.2V when using iron phosphate as the positive electrode material.

2. Lithium thionyl chloride batteries, also known as Li-SOCl2 batteries, have sulfur dioxide chloride as their positive electrode, an open circuit voltage of 3.6V, and a termination voltage of 2.0V. Lithium manganese batteries, also known as Li-MnO2 batteries, have manganese dioxide as their positive electrode, an open circuit voltage of 3.0V, and a termination voltage of 1.8V.
